Morning and evening routines

When day to day tasks become that little bit more of a challenge, we’re here to make life easier for you. From support with getting up or into bed, getting dressed or undressed, using the toilet or helping you orientate between night and day, we’ll be there for you as much as you need us.

Help with bathing and showering

Many older people find there comes a time when washing becomes much harder than it used to be. Allied Hands are here to help, whether that’s support with getting in and out of the bath or shower, helping you clean yourself, giving you a bed bath, or simply being around to give support and encouragement when needed.

Toileting assistance

Our wellbeing workers are trained to be sensitive and compassionate when supporting people to go to the toilet. If you wear continence pads, your wellbeing worker will monitor any change, whilst providing gentle encouragement and support to ensure a hygienic routine is maintained and help prevent any possible infection or sores. If you use a commode or bed pan, we are there to provide all the care you need in a dignified and respectful way, any time of day or night.

Oral hygiene

We all understand the importance of good oral hygiene in keeping your teeth and gums healthy and minimising infections. But sometimes, looking after your teeth can become a challenge. Whether you need assistance with brushing or just a little encouragement and support, your wellbeing worker can help. We can even facilitate regular visits to the dentist, or from the dentist at home – we’re here to keep you smiling.

Hair and beauty

At Allied Hands, we understand that looking good makes you feel good too. We offer all the support you need, from washing, drying and styling your hair, to arranging and facilitating trips to the hairdressers. We can support you to continue your beauty and personal grooming regimes, including helping you to apply makeup or enabling you to continue shaving. Because we believe we all deserve to feel good about ourselves!

Foot and nail care

Maybe you’d like a manicure or pedicure, a little pampering or more specialist care – your wellbeing worker can provide all the support you need to ensure your feet and nails are in tip top condition! We can also facilitate visits to the local chiropodist, or from the chiropodist at home.

Applying creams and lotions

Whether you need support to apply prescribed creams, beauty products or moisturising lotion, your wellbeing worker can provide practical assistance and help you to monitor any skin conditions. We’ll support you to look and feel your best using your preferred skincare products.

Why is personal care important?

Good personal hygiene is important for your health and the health of those around you. It stops the spread of germs and illnesses and keeps you looking and feeling your best, improving your overall wellbeing. Yet as we age, maintaining our personal hygiene can become a challenge. A mobility problem might make it difficult getting in and out of the bath, a dexterity problem might make it hard to maintain personal grooming routines, or a cognitive condition like dementia may make it hard to remember those all-important self-care tasks.

If managing your personal hygiene is becoming a struggle, Allied Hands can help.

Our personal care service for older adults in Leeds supports you to maintain as much independence as possible, whilst providing a helping hand to make things that bit easier for you. Whether you need hands-on care or just a little reassurance and prompting, our service will be tailored to your individual needs and delivered with dignity and respect.

Our personal care services are inspected by the Care Quality Commission and are recognised for effectively meeting the needs of our clients, enhancing wellbeing, being safe, responsive, caring and well led. With us, you’re always in good hands.
